Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 15, 2026 • Effective date: August 15, 2026
This privacy policy explains how the Chores Tracker web application ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the App. Your privacy matters to us, and we are committed to being transparent about our data practices.
1. Overview
Chores Tracker is a home replacement & maintenance tracker. It helps you record household items (such as water filters, furnace filters, smoke alarm batteries, and appliances), track when they were last replaced, and receive reminders about when they are due for replacement.
The App is a browser-based web application. Most of your data is stored locally in your own browser using local storage, and never leaves your device. If you choose to connect your Google account, the App uses the limited Google Calendar API to save your maintenance items in a dedicated calendar that it creates for you.
2. Information We Collect
- Maintenance item data: The names, categories, replacement frequencies, last-replacement dates, part/model numbers, and notes you choose to enter into the App.
- Google account access (optional): When you connect your Google account, the App requests permission to access only a dedicated, app-created secondary calendar. It does not read your primary calendar, emails, contacts, or any other Google data.
- Basic technical data: Standard browser information such as your device type and browser version may be used by third-party services (see Section 4) to deliver the App's functionality.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's core features (tracking replacement schedules and showing due dates).
- To synchronize your maintenance items between the App and the dedicated calendar it creates in your Google account, only when you explicitly choose to connect and sync.
- To generate offline calendar (.ics) backup files that you can download and import into other calendar applications.
- To notify you (via calendar reminders) when maintenance items are due.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
4. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services to function:
- Google Identity Services & Google Calendar API: Used for optional account connection and synchronization of your maintenance items into a dedicated calendar you control. Google's use of your data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Tailwind CSS and Lucide Icons (CDNs): Used to render the App's styling and icons. These are served from third-party content delivery networks (cdn.tailwindcss.com, unpkg.com).
The limited Google Calendar permissions requested by the App
(calendar.app.created and
calendar.calendarlist.readonly)
grant access only to secondary calendars created by this App, plus read-only access to the user's
calendar list solely to locate that app-created calendar by name. No other Google data is accessed.
5. Data Storage & Retention
- Local storage: Your maintenance items are saved in your browser's local storage so the App works offline. You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this app.
- Google Calendar: If you opt in to cloud synchronization, your item details are stored as events (including private extended properties) inside a calendar that the App creates in your own Google account. You have full control over this calendar and can delete it or revoke access at any time from your Google Account settings.
- Retention: The App does not operate its own servers or databases and therefore does not retain your data beyond your local browser storage and your own Google Calendar. Deleting an item in the App, revoking access, or deleting the created calendar removes the corresponding data.
6. Your Choices & Controls
- Connect or disconnect: Connecting your Google account is entirely optional. You can disconnect at any time from within the App's Google Calendar configuration panel.
- Revoke access: You can revoke the App's access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account permissions page.
- Delete data: You can delete individual items in the App, clear your browser's local storage, or delete the dedicated calendar from your Google Calendar account.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to help protect your information. Google account authentication is handled securely by Google's own OAuth 2.0 and Identity Services infrastructure. Data stored in your browser's local storage is not transmitted to any third party unless you explicitly initiate a cloud synchronization.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Contact Us
If you have any questions or concerns about this privacy policy or the App's data practices, please contact us using the support email address listed in the Google OAuth consent screen.
